European antique furniture goes up in value and when needed repair does not devalue. Though restoration takes a pretty penny it is worth it. American antiques holds a higher value than that of European as it is more rare to find. however, altering the current state of american antiques devalues the piece. All restoration must be done by a profesional. No power tools or spray should be applied. To keep the piece original you must repair the furniture the way it was made. Often times the restorer will use period tools. All hand made. Hand made nails and etc...
Antique furniture is expensive, but it is gorgeous and worth the money.
however in this U.S. economy you will find that antiques are going up in price because the demand is so low.
only a handful of people really and truely know this business and it goes much deeper than what I have explained.
